MADRID, May 28 (Xinhua) -- FC Barcelona on Tuesday signed a new two-year contract with 17-year-old defender Hector Fort, who joined Barcelona at seven and progressed through the club's youth system.
Fort made his first team debut this season against Royal Antwerp in the Champions League group stage.
He has now made 10 first team appearances, showing ability to play at both right and left back. He has also played 13 times for the club's B-team.
"I joined when I was seven years old at the lowest possible level, and since then I have continued year after year to get to where I am today," said Fort on the club's social media.
"This has been an unforgettable year for me. The year I made my debut, and I will never forget that. It's true we haven't won any titles, but I have gained experience and I hope things go better in the future," he added.
As for the coaching position, Barcelona seem to be close to signing Hansi Flick as the replacement for Xavi Hernandez. Flick is currently in Barcelona and had lunch with Barcelona president Joan Laporta. ■
