KABUL, May 28 (Xinhua) -- Afghanistan's security forces have discovered a weapon and ammunition cache in western Paktia province, the country's Ministry of National Defense said in a statement on Tuesday.
The confiscated arms and ammunition were discovered in the province's Barmal district, the statement added.
The contents of the cache include 21 Kalashnikovs, three PK machine guns, nine rocket launchers, nine hand grenades, three heavy machine guns and hundreds of different kinds of bullets and projectiles, said the statement.
However, the ministry did not say if anyone had been arrested in the case.
In the meantime, the Ministry of Interior Affairs said that police have recently apprehended 27 people on the charge of involvement in criminal activities including selling illicit drugs and carrying arms illegally in the provinces of Kandahar, Balkh, Paktika, Kunduz, Nangarhar, Herat, Nimroz, and Ghazni.
The Afghan caretaker government has collected thousands of arms and ammunition from irresponsible armed men since assuming power in August 2021, as part of efforts to ensure law and order across the war-scarred country. ■
