BEIJING, May 27 (Xinhua) -- China's Ministry of Education on Monday confirmed the launch of a special campaign aimed at better serving student applicants for this year's national college entrance exam, also known as the gaokao.

The ministry issued a circular, asking local education authorities to work with other departments and online platforms to offer comprehensive services for candidates, better promote exam and enrollment activities, provide consultation for students in terms of their college applications, and ensure a sound exam environment for students.

The circular made clear the importance of strengthened efforts to provide convenience for candidates in accessing their transport, accommodation, and medical and health care needs during the gaokao period. Noise control measures must also be implemented to ensure tranquility for students.

Reasonable assistance should be provided to special groups, such as examinees with disabilities, when participating in the exam, according to the circular.

In addition, special initiatives, including a campaign to clean up online fake information related to the exam, must continue.

The annual national college entrance exam, set to take place in early June 2024, is regarded as one of the most important exams for Chinese students. Last year, a total of 12.91 million students applied for the exam.
