NEW DELHI, May 27 (Xinhua) -- Two doctors have been arrested in India's Pune city for allegedly tampering with the blood sample of a 17-year-old boy involved in a fatal Porsche car accident under the influence of alcohol, as confirmed by a senior police officer on Monday.
The two victims, identified as Anish Awadhiya and Ashwini Koshta, were on a motorcycle when they were reportedly struck by the 17-year-old boy, believed to be the son of a rich real estate developer Vishal Agarwal.
Speculation has been rife that the boy's father allegedly "bribed" the doctors in a bid to save his child from being prosecuted. Vishal Agarwal was also detained by the local police over his role of "influencing" the two doctors.
The two doctors, Ajay Taware, head of the forensics department at Sassoon Hospital, and Shrihari Halnor, the doctor on duty, have been charged with several crimes including criminal conspiracy, forgery, and destruction of evidence.
Soon after the incident on May 19, the boy was granted bail, leading to an uproar among the country's general public with allegations of corruption made against the doctors. ■
