TEHRAN, May 26 (Xinhua) -- Iran's Interior Minister Ahmad Vahidi on Sunday issued the directive for the beginning of the country's 14th presidential election process, the official news agency IRNA reported.

In a letter addressed to the country's governors and governor-generals, the interior minister ordered the latter to set up election headquarters and called on the former to form the relevant executive bodies across the country within three days, starting from Sunday, and implement other necessary measures in their respective provinces according to the schedule set for the election process.

Iran's Election Headquarters issued a statement on Sunday announcing that the candidates' registration process would begin as of Thursday for five days until June 3, IRNA reported.

The statement also specified the conditions and qualifications that must be met by those registering for candidacy, including being of Iranian origin, having Iranian nationality and a good track record and reputation, and being committed to Iran's basics and principles as well as the country's official religion Islam.

According to IRNA, following the registration, candidates will have to conduct electoral campaigns from June 12 to 27, and the election will be held on June 28.

Iran's late President Ebrahim Raisi and his entourage died in a helicopter crash on May 19 in a mountainous area in the northwestern Iranian province of East Azarbaijan.

On Monday, Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei appointed the country's First Vice President Mohammad Mokhber as the interim president.
