NEW DELHI, May 27 (Xinhua) -- India's federal health ministry has advised employers to take essential heat safety measures at the workplace, officials said Monday.

The advisory comes amid heat wave conditions that are prevalent in most parts of the country.

"Keep your workers safe with these essential heat safety measures in the workplace. From providing hydration stations to scheduling outdoor tasks during cooler hours, let's ensure our workers stay cool, healthy and productive," reads a brief statement issued by the ministry.

The ministry called for providing a drinking water facility at the workplace and urged employers to schedule strenuous and outdoor jobs in cooler times of the day, in addition to increasing the frequency of rest breaks for employees.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) Monday said heat wave to severe heat wave conditions are most likely to continue over plains of northwest India and West Madhya Pradesh.

On Sunday the highest temperature of 49.8 degrees Celsius was reported at Phalodi (Rajasthan) over the country, the IMD said.

The weather department has already suggested people should avoid heat exposure and stay in cool places.

Large parts of India are presently in the grip of heat wave conditions, which has severely impacted the health and livelihoods of people.
