BEIJING, May 25 (Xinhua) -- Here are the latest Chinese sports headlines from the past week:

1. Liaoning wins third consecutive CBA championship

The Liaoning Flying Leopards achieved a 4-0 sweep in the Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) Finals after beating the Xinjiang Flying Tigers 104-95 in Game 4 on the road on May 22.

This is Liaoning's third straight CBA title and fourth in total.

Kyle Fogg was named the CBA Finals Most Valuable Player (FMVP).


2. China unveils badminton squad for Paris Olympics

China has announced its roster for Olympic badminton events, spearheaded by reigning Olympic champion Chen Yufei.

Chen is joined by He Bingjiao in the women's singles, while Shi Yuqi and Lin Shifeng will compete in the men's singles.

Chen Qingchen/Jia Yifan will be looking to change the color of their Tokyo silver medals in women's doubles in Paris, while Liu Shengshu/Tan Ning are to make their Olympic debut. Liang Weikeng/Wang Chang and Liu Yuchen/Ou Xuanyi will represent China in the men's doubles.

World champions Zheng Siwei and Huang Yaqiong will aim for the mixed doubles title, with Feng Yanzhe and Huang Dongping also participating.


3. IOC chief Bach hails Olympic Qualifier Series in Shanghai

International Olympic Committee (IOC) president Thomas Bach expressed profound satisfaction with the inaugural Olympic Qualifier Series (OQS) on May 19, hailing it as a landmark event in Olympic history.

Bach made the remarks at a press conference on the closing day of the OQS in Shanghai, lauding the "exciting sport" and the "happy faces" of athletes both on and off the field of play.

"If you look at the public here, it's indeed the younger generation that is enjoying this new Olympic experience," Bach said as he observed skateboarding, breaking, and sport climbing events later in the day.


4. China unveils 29-man roster for World Cup qualifiers

China's men's national team announced a 29-player roster on May 22 for the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup Asian qualifiers, with naturalized forward A Lan returning to the national team after a two-year absence.

The roster features six newcomers: Huang Zhengyu, Yang Zexiang, Bao Yaxiong, Behram Abduweli, Xu Haoyang, and Han Pengfei, while 35-year-old captain Zhang Linpeng has been left out.

Three Beijing Guoan players - Zhang Yuning, Li Lei, and Lin Liangming, were also dropped due to injuries.


5. 15-year-old Xinjiang boy conquers Mt. Qomolangma

15-year-old Alikut Dilxat successfully ascended Mount Qomolangma from the southern slope in the morning of May 19, becoming the youngest Chinese to summit the world's highest peak.

The record of the oldest climber went to 70-year-old Wang Jian, who reached the summit of Mount Qomolangma from the north slope on May 21.
