BEIRUT, May 23 (Xinhua) -- A Hezbollah official was killed and three civilians were injured on Thursday in an Israeli airstrike on a civilian car on a road in southern Lebanon, Lebanese military sources said.
The shrapnel hit the passing school bus, killing the Hezbollah official, who also worked as a physics teacher, and injuring three students.
According to the sources, civil defense members extinguished the fire that broke out in the car and transported the wounded to a hospital in the city of Nabatieh.
Tensions along the Lebanon-Israel border escalated on Oct. 8, 2023, following a barrage of rockets launched by the Lebanese armed group Hezbollah toward Israel in solidarity with a Hamas attack on Israel the day before. Israel then retaliated by firing heavy artillery toward southeastern Lebanon.
Confrontations between Hezbollah and Israel have killed 482 people on the Lebanese side, including 306 Hezbollah members and 89 civilians, according to Lebanese security sources. ■
