YANGON, May 23 (Xinhua) -- One person was killed and two others were injured in a bridge explosion in southern Myanmar's Mon State on Thursday, the Information Team of Myanmar's State Administration Council reported.
The bridge, which is located on the Yangon-Mawlamyine Pyidaungsu road in Belin Township of Mon State, exploded at around 5 a.m. local time on Thursday due to a mine planted by terrorists, the information team said.
As a result of the explosion, the 106-foot long and 24-foot wide reinforced concrete bridge collapsed, causing three motorcycles to fall, it said.
The injured were transported to Belin General Hospital for medical treatment, the information team said.
Officials and staff from the country's road and bridge department were working to repair the collapsed bridge, and security personnel were conducting counter-terrorism operation, it added. ■
