BEIJING, May 23 (Xinhua) -- An earthquake with a magnitude of 5.3 jolted 39 km NNW of Finschhafen, Papua New Guinea at 04:19 GMT on Thursday, the U.S. Geological Survey said.

The epicenter, with a depth of 101.5 km, was initially determined to be at 6.21 degrees south latitude and 147.76 degrees east longitude. ■
