KABUL, May 23 (Xinhua) -- The national examination committee of Afghanistan's caretaker government announced on Thursday the country's college entrance test will start on June 6, the state-run Bakhtar news agency reported.

Quoting Sheikh Abdul Baqi Haqqani, the committee chief, Bakhtar reported that the Kankur or the college entrance test would be held in five phases with the first phase scheduled for June 6 in 16 out of the country's 34 provinces.

The second phase of the test covering the national capital city of Kabul and its districts is scheduled for June 21 and 22, Bakhtar said.

The announcement was made amid a ban on girls' education from above Grade 7. Authorities did not reveal the number of applicants attending the nationwide test, nor hinted at girls' participation in the test this year.

Bakhtar added that the committee has tested 170,000 persons for governmental work, of whom 120,000 have passed and been appointed to several entities over the past year.
