SEOUL, May 22 (Xinhua) -- South Korea's wage worker growth continued to slow for the seventh consecutive quarter, statistical office data showed Wednesday.

The number of wage and salary worker jobs was 20,749,000 in the October-December quarter of 2023, up 293,000 from a year earlier, according to Statistics Korea.

The quarterly job growth kept slowing down after peaking at 752,000 in the first quarter of 2022.

The number of paid workers among those aged 60 or older advanced 249,000 in the fourth quarter, with the figures for those in their 50s and 30s growing 113,000 and 52,000 each.

The readings for those in their 40s and under 20s declined 24,000 and 97,000 respectively.

Jobs in the health and social welfare, the eatery and lodging and the transport and warehousing industries expanded 107,000, 39,000 and 38,000 each in the cited quarter.

The number of paid workers in the construction sector reduced 14,000 during the quarter amid the faltering housing market.
