SANAA, May 21 (Xinhua) -- Yemen's Houthi group announced on Tuesday that they shot down a U.S. MQ-9 Reaper drone over the central province of al-Bayda.
"The drone was targeted with a locally made surface-to-air missile, and the video showing the operation will be broadcast later," Houthi military spokesman Yahya Sarea said in a statement aired by Houthi-run al-Masirah TV.
Last week, the Houthis claimed that they shot down another MQ-9 Reaper drone over the Yemeni province of Marib.
The U.S. military has not commented yet.
Since January, the U.S.-British naval coalition in the Red Sea has conducted air raids and missile strikes against Houthi targets in Yemen to deter the group. However, this has only led to an expansion of Houthi attacks to include U.S. and British commercial vessels and naval ships. ■
