Sri Lanka export improves in first 4 months of 2024

COLOMBO, May 21 (Xinhua) -- Sri Lanka's cumulative merchandise exports between January and April 2024 increased by 3.55 percent to nearly 4 billion U.S. dollars compared to the same period of 2023, according to data released by the Export Development Board (EDB) on Tuesday.

The EDB said the estimated value of services exports is expected to increase by 6.47 percent to over 1 billion dollars in the first four months of 2024, compared to the corresponding period last year.

Earnings from the export of tea, rubber products, coconut products and food and beverages increased by 10.44 percent, 12.03 percent, 23.44 percent and 21.83 percent, respectively during the January-April period year-on-year, according to the EDB.

Among the top 10 export markets, the UK, Italy, Germany, Netherlands, France and China have shown positive growth in both April 2024 and the cumulative period of January to April compared to the same period in 2023, according to the EDB.
