JAKARTA, May 21 (Xinhua) -- A 5.3-magnitude earthquake, with its epicenter located on land, rocked off Indonesia's eastern Papua province on Tuesday, the country's meteorology, climatology and geophysics agency said.
The quake jolt at 15:31 Jakarta time (0831 GMT). Its epicenter was situated 29 km northeast of Memberamo Raya regency with a depth of 10 km, the agency reported.
No tsunami warning was issued by the agency as the tremors would not trigger giant waves.
Indonesia is prone to earthquakes because of its position on a vulnerable quake-hit zone called the Pacific Ring of Fire. ■
