KUALA LUMPUR, May 20 (Xinhua) -- Malaysia's total car sales fell 18 percent to 57,991 units in April from 71,052 units in March, Malaysian Automotive Association (MAA) said Monday.
The MAA said in a release that the lower car sales were because of short working month due to Hari Raya festive holidays.
On a year-on-year comparison, car sales increased by 21 percent from 47,802 units a year ago.
From January to April, the total car sales stood at 260,236 units, up 8 percent from 240,417 units a year earlier.
Meanwhile, Malaysia's car production in April jumped 38 percent year-on-year to 56,895 units.
From January to April, the total car production grew 12 percent year-on-year to 267,326 units.
"Car sales in May are expected to be slightly higher than April," said the MAA. ■
