BUENOS AIRES, May 18 (Xinhua) -- Independiente manager Carlos Tevez has tendered his resignation after less than a year in the role, the Argentine club said on Saturday.

The 40-year-old former Argentina international forward will take charge of El Rojo for the last time in Sunday's away clash against Platense.

"Carlos Tevez has informed of his decision not to continue as head coach of the first team," read a statement on Independiente's official website.

"We want to highlight the commitment and professionalism of the outgoing coaching staff, who took over at a difficult time and led us on a pathway toward new objectives."

The announcement came less than a week after Independiente began the Primera Division season with a 3-1 home defeat to Talleres Cordoba.

Tevez has led Independiente to 14 wins, 10 draws and seven losses after replacing Ricardo Zielinski last August.

He will be replaced on an interim basis by youth team coach, Hugo Tocalli, the statement added.

Tevez turned his hand to management in 2022 after a playing career that included spells at Manchester United, Manchester City, Juventus and Shanghai Shenhua, among other clubs.

His first job as a manager was with Rosario Central, whom he led to six wins, 10 draws and seven losses before stepping down after just five months.
