SINGAPORE, May 18 (Xinhua) -- Singapore's Health Ministry has required public hospitals to move suitable patients to transitional or home care facilities to ensure bed capacity for COVID-19 resurgence, according to a statement issued Saturday.

The ministry also asked public hospitals to reduce non-urgent surgeries as part of the precaution measures.

The estimated COVID-19 cases between May 5 and May 11 rose to 25,900 from 13,700 in the previous week, the ministry said, adding that the average daily COVID-19 hospitalizations rose to 250 from 181.

The KP.1 and KP.2 variants account for over two-thirds of COVID-19 cases in Singapore. The ministry called on residents to step up vaccination to protect against severe illness.
