Turkish family size declining in past 8 years: statistics

ANKARA, May 15 (Xinhua) -- The average household size in Türkiye has declined in the past eight years, according to the statistics released by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK) on Wednesday.

The proportion of families with over two people in Türkiye decreased from 66.9 percent in 2015 to 63.8 percent in 2023, while that of single-person households increased from 14.4 percent in 2015 to 19.7 percent in 2023, according to the statistics.

Meanwhile, the average age of Turkish mothers giving first birth increased from 26.7 in 2001 to 29.2 in 2023, the TÜİK found.

The current population of Türkiye is over 85 million with a growth rate of 0.11% per annum.
