JERUSALEM, May 15 (Xinhua) -- Lebanese armed group Hezbollah launched about 60 rockets towards an Air Force control base and other areas in northern Israel on Wednesday, causing no casualties, Israeli authorities said.
The rockets triggered air raid sirens in the vicinity of the base, Mount Meron, and the city of Kiryat Shmona.
The Israel Defense Forces announced in a statement that "air defense fighters successfully intercepted several launches," which resulted in "minor damages."
Israel's Magen David Adom emergency service said no injuries have been reported.
Hezbollah claimed responsibility for the attack, saying it had targeted Israel with "dozens" of rockets, missiles and artillery in response to an Israeli drone attack in the area of Tyre in southern Lebanon on Tuesday, which killed two people, including senior Hezbollah field commander Hussain Ibrahim Mekky. ■
