JAKARTA, May 15 (Xinhua) -- Indonesia posted a sloping trade balance surplus that narrowed to 3.56 billion U.S. dollars in April from the previous month's 4.47 billion dollars, Statistics Indonesia (BPS) announced on Wednesday.
"The surplus mainly came from the non-oil and gas sector of 5.17 billion dollars, but was reduced by a deficit in the oil and gas sector of 1.61 billion dollars," said BPS Deputy for Distribution and Services Statistics Pudji Ismartini in a press conference.
April's export value reached 19.62 billion dollars, down 12.97 percent compared to the previous month, although up 1.72 percent compared to the same month last year.
The largest increase in non-oil and gas exports, especially nickel commodities and their derivative products, was 45.85 percent.
The largest non-oil and gas exports in April were to China at 4.28 billion dollars, followed by India at 1.81 billion dollars and the United States at 1.75 billion dollars.
Meanwhile, the import value in April reached 16.06 billion dollars, down 10.60 percent compared to March 2024, but up 4.62 percent compared to the same month last year.
The increase in non-oil and gas imports, especially sugar commodities and derivative products, was 48.64 percent.
The main countries supplying non-oil and gas commodities to Indonesia were China, Japan and Australia, amounting to 4.33 billion dollars, 0.96 billion dollars and 0.78 billion dollars respectively. ■
