ULAN BATOR, May 15 (Xinhua) -- Mongolia has a total of 983,500 registered families, as announced by the country's National Statistics Office (NSO) on Wednesday.
According to a statement from the NSO on the occasion of the International Day of Families, observed annually on May 15, three, four, and five-member households collectively constitute half of all registered households of the country. Additionally, households with 10 or more members represent 0.6 percent of the total.
Meanwhile, in 2023, Mongolia saw 17,408 couples register their marriages, while 4,776 couples decided to divorce, said the statistical agency.
The Asian country, boasting a vast land area of 1,564,116 square km and a population of 3.5 million, stands as the most sparsely populated country in the world.
The International Day of Families, established by the UN General Assembly in 1993, provides an opportunity to raise awareness about various family-related issues and to deepen understanding of the social, economic and demographic factors influencing families. ■
