NAIROBI, May 15 (Xinhua) -- Kenya on Wednesday launched a five-year strategy designed to build a digitally inclusive society that ensures access to affordable, reliable and high-quality communication services.

Eliud Owalo, cabinet secretary for the Ministry of Information, Communications and The Digital Economy, told journalists in Nairobi, the capital of Kenya, that the plan contains goals such as expanded information and communications technology (ICT) connectivity, consumer empowerment and protection, fostering competitive ICT markets and the spread of emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence.

"The strategy contains a roadmap to roll out broadband networks in the remaining unserved and underserved areas," Owalo said.

David Mugonyi, director-general of the Communications Authority of Kenya, said the plans also call for the rollout of fiberoptic cable infrastructure across the country to support the digitalization of basic public services.

The strategy would ensure that Kenya boosts e-commerce penetration by modernizing its postal and courier market structure, Mugonyi added.
