BEIJING, May 14 (Xinhua) -- Chinese stocks closed lower on Tuesday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index down 0.07 percent to 3,145.77 points.
The Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.05 percent lower at 9,668.73 points.
The combined turnover of stocks covered by the two indices reached 824.56 billion yuan (about 116.05 billion U.S. dollars), down from the 909.72 billion yuan recorded on the previous trading day.
Shares related to home appliances and coal mining saw major declines, while those related to the furniture and entertainment sectors gained.
The ChiNext Index, tracking China's Nasdaq-style board of growth enterprises, lost 0.26 percent to close at 1,855.6 points Tuesday. ■
