SANAA, May 13 (Xinhua) -- The U.S.-British naval coalition on Monday launched an airstrike on the airport of Yemen's Red Sea port city of Hodeidah, Houthi-run al-Masirah TV reported, without providing further details.
Residents of Hodeidah reported via social media accounts a big explosion at the airport following the air raid.
The coalition has not made any comment on the alleged strike.
Hodeidah's airport has been closed since late 2014 when the Houthi group seized control over the port city following the eruption of the civil war in Yemen between the Houthis and the internationally recognized government.
The Houthis began last November to launch anti-ship ballistic missiles and drones targeting what they said were Israeli-linked ships passing through the Red Sea, to show solidarity with Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.
In response, the U.S.-British naval coalition in the region has conducted air raids and missile strikes on Houthi military sites in Yemen, including Hodeidah's airport. ■
