RIO DE JANEIRO, May 11 (Xinhua) -- Former Fiorentina striker Pedro and Lorran Lucas scored either side of halftime as Flamengo secured a 2-0 home victory over Corinthians in Brazil's Serie A championship on Saturday.
Pedro sent a cool finish into the bottom-right corner in the 22nd minute, and Lorran doubled the advantage just after the hour by combining with Gerson and slotting his shot past Carlos Miguel.
The result leaves Flamengo top of the standings with 11 points from six outings, a point ahead of second-placed Athletico Paranaense, who have a game in hand.
Corinthians are 15th in the 20-team standings with just one victory and five points so far.
"The result reflected our performance, which was superior in every aspect," Flamengo manager Tite told reporters after the match.
"The opportunities [to score] presented themselves because of our creativity and we also defended well, which meant the opposition had few chances in attack," the former Brazil national team boss added. ■
