MEXICO CITY, May 10 (Xinhua) -- Goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa has been left out of Mexico's squad for the upcoming Copa America in the United States, the country's football federation said on Friday.

The 38-year-old veteran of five World Cup campaigns paid the price for having lost his regular starting place at Italy's Salernitana, where his contract is due to expire next month.

Mexico's three goalkeepers for the tournament starting next month in the United States will be Luis Malagon (America), Julio Gonzalez (Pumas) and Raul Rangel (Chivas).

"I spoke with him to let him know about my decision and reiterate that it doesn't mean he's out of the reckoning for the 2026 World Cup," Mexico manager Jaime Lozano told reporters.

"Right now we just want to watch other players but he's still in the frame."

Fulham striker Raul Jimenez and PSV Eindhoven winger Hirving Lozano were also absent.

As expected, Lozano's 23-man squad includes West Ham midfielder Edson Alvarez, Porto defender Jorge Sanchez and Feyenoord player Santiago Gimenez.

Mexico will open their Copa America campaign against Jamaica on June 22 before also meeting Venezuela and Ecuador in the group stage.
