EcoChina | Baiyangdian's remarkable ecological revival in north China's Xiong'an

XIONG'AN, May 9 (Xinhua) -- Baiyangdian, the largest freshwater wetland in northern China, is located in the Xiong'an New Area in Hebei.

   Since the Xiong'an New Area was established in 2017, the lake's rehabilitation and protection activities have been bolstered, and the water quality in Baiyangdian has improved from Level V -- the lowest in China's five-tier water assessment system -- to Level III.

  Increasing numbers of wild creatures are returning to Baiyangdian as the water quality improves, and the lake has steadily evolved into a haven for lotuses, reeds and abundant fish species.
