KAMPALA, May 6 (Xinhua) -- The Uganda Cricket Association (UCA) announced on Monday the final squad that will play at the 2024 International Cricket Council (ICC) T20 Men's World Cup.

20 teams will tussle it out at the World Cup from June 1 to 29 in the West Indies and the United States.

Brian Mark Masaba will lead the team as captain, while Riazat Ali Shah has been selected as the new vice captain.

"We have selected players based on their performance and potential to excel in the tournament. We believe in their abilities to compete at the highest level," said Nehal Bibodi, head of the selectors.

Uganda, placed in Group C for the World Cup alongside Afghanistan, Papua New Guinea, the West Indies and New Zealand, will be making their World Cup debut.

The team is currently at a training camp in Sri Lanka, where they will also play international friendlies.

Uganda will open their World Cup campaign against Afghanistan on June 3, and will take on Papua New Guinea two days later. They will face a tough test against the West Indies on June 8, and complete their group stage against New Zealand on June 14.
