BUENOS AIRES, May 2 (Xinhua) -- Chile international midfielder Javier Altamirano has resumed training with his club Estudiantes after collapsing on the pitch during an Argentine top flight match in March.
The 24-year-old completed a light gym session at Estudiantes' training base in the Argentine city of La Plata on Thursday.
"Javier Altamirano resumed physical activity with non-contact aerobic and strengthening work. It's great to see you at the club!," Estudiantes said in a social media post that included a photo of the playmaker on an exercise bike.
The March 18 duel between Estudiantes and Boca Juniors was suspended after Altamirano collapsed and suffered a seizure caused by what doctors later described as a thrombosis.
He was taken by ambulance to the Platense Medical Institute, where he remained under medical supervision before being discharged on March 27.
Despite being cleared to resume light training, Altamirano is not expected to be available for Estudiantes for at least another month.
Estudiantes will meet Velez Sarsfield in the final of the Primera Division's first stage in Santiago del Estero on Sunday. ■
