Trade surplus of Vietnam's agro-forestry-aquatic sector up 71.5 pct in 4 months

HANOI, May 2 (Xinhua) -- Vietnam's agro-forestry-aquatic sector enjoyed a trade surplus of 4.74 billion U.S. dollars in the first four months of this year, a rise of 71.5 percent year on year, Vietnam News Agency reported Thursday, citing the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.

The sector's exports earned some 19.06 billion dollars during the cited period, up 23.7 percent year-on-year while the imports were estimated at 14.32 billion dollars.

From January to April, Vietnam shipped abroad 10.44 billion dollars worth of agricultural products, a year-on-year rise of 32.5 percent; 5.18 billion dollars of forestry products, up 22.8 percent; and 2.68 billion dollars of aquatic products, up 4.2 percent.

Vietnam's key agro-forestry-aquatic products like wood, coffee, rice, cashew nuts, vegetables and shrimps all recorded higher growth than the same period last year, said the report.
