TEHRAN, April 29 (Xinhua) -- Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Nasser Kanaani on Monday rejected "biased speculations" about a visit by a delegation from the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) to Tehran, saying that the delegation was in the Iranian capital to attend a trade exhibition.
Kanaani said at a weekly press conference that governmental delegations from over 26 countries and nearly 2,000 foreign traders had attended the 6th Export Potential Exhibition of Iran, also known as Iran Expo 2024, noting that the DPRK delegation's visit to Iran was within the same framework.
Kanaani stressed that the visit by DPRK Minister of External Economic Relations Yun Jong Ho and his accompanying delegation to Tehran was upon the invitation of Iranian Minister of Industry, Mine and Trade Abbas Aliabadi and aimed at attending the exhibition.
He said some parties sought to raise biased speculations about the visit, rejecting such speculations and claims as "baseless."
Yun Jong Ho's visit is the first trip by a high-ranking DPRK delegation to Iran in about five years.
Some Western media speculated recently that the visit had a military dimension.
Iran Expo 2024 opened on Saturday and is scheduled to run until Wednesday. ■
