BUENOS AIRES, April 28 (Xinhua) -- Lenny Lobato converted the decisive spot-kick as 10-man Velez Sarsfield advanced to the final of Argentina's Primera Division on Sunday with 4-2 penalty shootout victory over Argentinos Juniors.
Thiago Vecino, Roberto Garcia and Santiago Caseres also held their nerve for Velez in the shootout while Luicano Gondou and Leonardo Heredia missed for Argentinos Juniors.
Velez was handed a numerical disadvantage in the 14th minute when Braian Romero was shown a straight red card for scything down Nicolos Oroz.
The match was forced into a shootout after neither side was able to score in the allotted 90 minutes.
"We capitalized on the amazing support of our fans, who were always behind us and gave us a lot of confidence. I'm very grateful for what they did," Velez manager Gustavo Quinteros.
Velez will meet the winner of Monday's other semifinal between Estudiantes and Boca Juniors for a place in the final on May 5. ■
