HANOI, April 29 (Xinhua) -- Vietnam's consumer price index (CPI) in the first four months of this year went up by 3.93 percent year on year, as the country's core inflation rose by 2.81 percent, according to the statistics released by the General Statistics Office on Monday.

Compared to the same period last year, the index grew by 4.4 percent in April, contributed by price hikes for 10 out of the 11 items in the calculation basket.

The cost of education, up 8.31 percent in April, contributed the most to the inflation, followed by medicine and healthcare services, which rose 7.44 percent year on year.

In 2023, Vietnam saw the CPI rise by 3.25 percent compared to the previous year, meeting the target set by its top legislature.

Vietnam has set the target of keeping the CPI at 4-4.5 percent for 2024.
