SEOUL, April 29 (Xinhua) -- South Korea's retail sales grew in double digits last month due to solid demand for food and daily necessities, government data showed Monday.

The combined revenue among major offline and online retailers advanced 10.9 percent in March from a year earlier, keeping a double-digit increase for the second consecutive month, according to the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy.

Revenue for online retailers jumped 15.7 percent last month, maintaining a double-digit expansion for the seventh straight month.

Sales by offline retailers expanded 6.0 percent in March on a yearly basis after soaring 11.5 percent in the previous month.

Food demand in cyberspace surged 28.9 percent, while online demand for daily necessities and other services such as travel and cultural performance increased in double figures.

Food sale in offline stores went up 7.2 percent, while offline demand for clothes, daily necessities and other services rose in single digits.

Revenue for discount outlets, department stores and convenience stores grew in single digits last month.
