KUALA LUMPUR, April 26 (Xinhua) -- Malaysia's producer price index, which measures the price changes of goods at the producer level, increased by 1.6 percent in March as compared to 0.3 percent in February, official data showed Friday.

The Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM) said in a statement that all sectors registered growth in March, contributing to the rise of the overall index.

According to the DOSM, the mining sector grew 8.3 percent; the agriculture, forestry and fishing sector increased by 5.5 percent; and the manufacturing sector climbed 0.6 percent.

Meanwhile, the electricity and gas supply as well as water supply indices both went up by 0.1 percent and 6 percent, respectively.

On a monthly basis, the producer price index for the local production expanded by 1.6 percent as compared to 0.7 percent in February, contributed by all sectors.
