JERUSALEM, April 25 (Xinhua) -- Israel's coastal city of Tel Aviv registered the highest-ever temperature for April at 40.8 degrees Celsius on Thursday, breaking an 85-year-old record for the month of April, the Israel Meteorological Service (IMS) announced.
The previous record, of 40.4 degrees Celsius, was recorded in the city in April 1939, according to the IMS.
Records were also measured in other locations throughout Israel, including 41.7 degrees in the town of Beit Dagan southeast of Tel Aviv, 41.5 degrees in Hefer Valley in north-central Israel, and 42.2 degrees in the southern village of Kvutzat Yavne, the IMS noted.
The IMS forecasted that after two days of extreme heat, there will be a significant drop in temperatures in Israel on Friday, adding that they will remain high for the season. ■
