NAIROBI, April 24 (Xinhua) -- Kenya launched the National Youth Council Strategic Plan 2024-2028 on Wednesday, providing a roadmap to boost youth empowerment.

Ismail Maalim Madey, principal secretary for creative economy and sports in the Ministry of Youth Affairs, told journalists in Nairobi that the plan is designed to harness the youth's vast potential by equipping them with the necessary tools, resources and opportunities to thrive in today's world.

"Focusing on participation, representation and association, the plan aims to create an enabling environment where every youth can realize their full potential," Madey said, noting that with over 75 percent of Kenya's population being under the age of 35, "the youth represent not just our present but also our future leaders, innovators and drivers of progress."

The strategic plan also emphasizes the importance of addressing the diverse needs of young people, including those from marginalized communities, persons with disabilities and other vulnerable groups, Madey added.

Anders Thomsen, the United Nations Population Fund representative in Kenya, said that the global body would provide technical and financial support to aid in the full implementation of the strategic plan.
