ISLAMABAD, April 24 (Xinhua) -- Pakistan's Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Ahsan Iqbal said on Tuesday that digitalization is crucial for the sustainable economic development of the South Asian country.

"The digital revolution is reshaping societies worldwide, and Pakistan is poised to emerge as a frontrunner in this transformative journey," the minister said at a ceremony.

To bolster the country's readiness for the digital age, Iqbal said the government has established National Centers of Excellence in key universities nationwide, fostering innovation in areas such as artificial intelligence, cyber security, big data, and cloud computing.

Underling the pivotal role of digitalization in shaping Pakistan's future, he emphasized the proactive engagement of the country's youth in driving digital innovation.

Highlighting the need to remove the gap between socioeconomic segments in the digital era, Iqbal called for inclusive growth strategies to ensure that all segments of society benefit from the digital revolution.
