JAKARTA, April 23 (Xinhua) -- Indonesia implemented a transitory residence permit policy, known as a bridging visa, which allows foreigners to extend their residence permits without having to leave the archipelago country, an official said on Tuesday.

Director General of Immigration Silmy Karim said that a transitory residence permit serves as a bridge between getting a new residence permit and an earlier one.

"Foreign residents in Indonesia will benefit from this time, energy, and accommodation cost-saving program, which also aims to give legal stability and convenience," said Karim.

Even when their prior residence permit has expired, foreigners whose application for a transitional residence permit has been approved are not subject to overstay.

This 60-day limited-stay permit is only valid for foreigners who are currently in Indonesia. It will expire if foreigners leave the archipelagic country.
