JAKARTA, April 22 (Xinhua) -- The Indonesian Constitutional Court on Monday rejected all demands of the two defeated presidential candidates in a dispute over presidential polls in February 2024, upholding Prabowo Subianto's victory in the election.
"The court rejects all the demands of the plaintiffs," Chief Justice Suhartoyo said, adding that the reasons supporting the demands filed by Anies Baswedan and Ganjar Pranowo, the other two presidential candidates, were weak.
Days after the polls, Anies and Ganjar filed lawsuits against a dispute over the result of the presidential elections.
The two accused Prabowo and his running mate Gibran Rakabuming Raka of widespread fraud and violations of the elections, questioning the validity of Gibran as a vice presidential candidate.
Days before the court deliberation meeting, Prabowo asked his supporters to be calm and not to take to the street, asking them to respect the court's decision.
In anticipation of commotion from those who may not be satisfied with the court's verdict, the Jakarta metropolitan police have deployed 7,783 personnel around the Constitutional Court.
Indonesia's new president will be inaugurated in October. ■
