RAMALLAH, April 22 (Xinhua) -- The Israeli army announced on Monday the arrest of a Palestinian who killed an Israeli boy in the West Bank.

The Israeli army spokesman, Avichai Adraee, said in a press statement on social media platform X that the General Security Service (Shin Bet) and the Israeli police arrested Ahmed Dawabsha, 21, a resident of the village of Duma, south of the city of Nablus in the northern West Bank, for killing Benjamin Achimeir.

On April 13, the Israeli army found the body of 14-year-old Jerusalem resident Achimeir, who went missing while shepherding in the West Bank. The army said that Achimeir was killed in a "terror attack."

According to Adraee, Dawabsha admitted to carrying out the attack leading to the death of Achimeir in the initial investigation.

The search for the missing teen turned violent as the Israeli settlers and forces launched a massive manhunt in the nearby Palestinian villages, and the discovery of the body fueled attacks on the Palestinians in the West Bank.

Settlers fired shots and torched homes and cars in villages while residents responded by throwing stones.

The West Bank has been witnessing escalating tension marked by armed confrontations between Israeli settlers and Palestinians in cities, villages, and camps since the start of the Israel-Hamas conflict in the Gaza Strip on Oct. 7 last year.
