MANILA, April 22 (Xinhua) -- Two people died and nine were injured in a fire that gutted a residential area in the Philippine capital on Monday afternoon, the Bureau of Fire Protection said.
The bureau said the fire, which broke out around 12:45 p.m. local time, took the lives of two female residents.
The bureau added that five residents were injured, including a 60-year-old male and a 55-year-old female who suffered burns. Four firefighters were also injured.
It took firefighters almost two hours to put out the fire.
An investigation is underway to determine the cause of the fire. ■
