CAIRO, April 22 (Xinhua) -- Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi and his French counterpart, Emmanuel Macron, held a phone call on Monday, urging "a just and comprehensive settlement of the Palestinian issue."
The two leaders reviewed recent developments in the Gaza Strip and efforts for a ceasefire, according to a statement by the Egyptian presidency.
"Reaching a just and comprehensive settlement of the Palestinian issue, based on the two-state solution, is the path to restoring and consolidating security, peace, and stability for all peoples of the region," said the statement.
In light of the latest escalations in the region, they cautioned against descending into widespread instability. ■
