ROME, April 20 (Xinhua) -- Empoli completed a sweep of victories against defending champion Napoli in the current Serie A campaign as Alberto Cerri's early strike gave the relegation-threatened side a much-needed 1-0 win on Saturday.
Empoli was just one point above the relegation zone before Saturday, while Napoli also got stuck in trouble as it only has theoretical hopes for the UEFA Champions League spot although the tournament featuring five Serie A clubs next season.
Despite having an inferior ball possession, Empoli was able to keep its 1-0 advantage after Cerri broke the deadlock just four minutes into the game.
With the win, Empoli temporarily ranked 16th with 31 points, while Napoli was placed eighth on 49 points.
Also on Saturday, Hellas Verona edged Udinese 1-0 thanks to Diego Coppola's late winner. ■
