SYDNEY, April 20 (Xinhua) -- A fatal crash between a Mazda sedan and a bus caused one dead and over 20 injured in Dubbo, a city in the Orana Region of New South Wales (NSW), Australia, on Saturday morning, the NSW Police Force said in a statement.

The police said officers attempted to stop the sedan at about 9:15 a.m. local time when patrolling the Mitchell Highway.

The police activated lights and sirens in an attempt to stop the vehicle, but the sedan failed to stop as directed. The police initiated a pursuit but terminated it later due to safety concerns. A short time later, the sedan hit a bus on the highway.

According to the statement, a man believed to be aged 32, who was the driver of the sedan, died at the scene. A number of the 26 passengers on board the bus were treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics for minor injuries. Eight people were taken to hospital in a stable condition. The driver of the bus has been taken to hospital to undergo mandatory testing.
