DHAKA, April 19 (Xinhua) -- The largest exhibition of Bangladesh's livestock industry kicked off here on Thursday to highlight investment opportunities and advanced technology in the dairy, poultry and other livestock sectors of the South Asian country.

Organized by the Bangladesh Dairy Farmers' Association (BDFA) and the Bangladesh Poultry Industry Central Council (BPICC) in collaboration with the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock and the Directorate of Youth Development of the Bangladeshi government, the two-day exhibition was attended by a large number of dairy farms, clients, and visitors.

The exhibition was opened at the Old Trade Fair Ground at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar beside the Bangabandhu International Conference Center (BICC).

Some 3,000 farmers of poultry and dairy sector across the country joined the event to display their cattle and birds in the fair. According to the organizers, some 25 pavilions and 30 stalls have been set up on the exhibition ground to showcase the variety of livestock animals of the country.

Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the exhibition and visited the show.

Speaking on the occasion, Hasina called upon the private sector to move forward to make the livestock sector thrive further to meet the growing demand for protein in the country.

The organizers said the exhibition was aimed at enhancing the knowledge of farms and farmers, and skills by adopting modern techniques for value addition, which in turn will contribute to the country's gross domestic product.
