JOHANNESBURG, April 19 (Xinhua) -- A total of eight people were killed in a car crash in South Africa's northeastern province of Limpopo on Thursday, the provincial traffic department said on Friday.
The deceased, including five men and three women, were all mine workers taking a truck to work. The accident happened in the early hours of the morning when a minibus collided with the truck on the R555 road, the Limpopo Department of Transport and Community Safety said in a statement.
"Eight people in the truck died at the scene after being thrown out of the vehicle. Six from the truck and 16 from the bus, including both drivers, were injured," said the department.
"It is alleged that the bus was overtaking at an unsafe spot when it hit the truck carrying workers and overturned," the department said, urging motorists to exercise caution on the roads. ■
