KUALA LUMPUR, April 19 (Xinhua) -- Malaysia's gross domestic product (GDP) is estimated to further expand at 3.9 percent in the first quarter of 2024, official data showed Friday.

The Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM) said in a statement that based on advanced estimates, Malaysia's economic growth is expected to accelerate as compared to 3 percent in the previous quarter.

According to the DOSM, the economic performance in this quarter will be spearheaded by the services sector, with all main sectors experiencing positive growth.

The services sector is seen to increase by 4.4 percent in the first quarter of 2024, as compared to 4.2 percent in the fourth quarter of 2023. The growth will be supported by wholesale and retail trade, transport and storage and business services sub-sectors.
