MANILA, April 19 (Xinhua) -- Philippine police reported Friday that two children died in a fire after they were trapped inside their hut in Cavite province, south of Manila.
Police said the fire gutted the siblings, the four-year-old girl and her three-year-old brother, around 3 p.m. local time Thursday.
The children's 22-year-old mother told investigators that she left the siblings in the house to gather firewood. When she returned, the house was already engulfed by flames.
Police did not provide details on the whereabouts of the father or any other family members when the fire broke out.
It took firefighters over an hour to put out the fire, police added. ■
